EASTBOURNE HERALD PICTURE
A picture appeared in the Herald of 27/11/2009 asking for names. The man in the centre of the back row is Brian Avery who is also in another group photo that I have which was taken in 1956 or 1957. I was a member at that time before my National Service call-up. The man at the right hand end of the seated row also appears in the later photo but I don't know his name.
I remember Brian as a natural entertainer who kept half a dozen of us amused in the boathouse for an hour or more during a thunder storm with a series of impressions using a piece of wood and an old hat as props.
At a dinner at Hastings Rowing Club he played some boogie woogie piano and then did the table cloth snatch trick with a big build up, wondering if it was possible and implying that he had never tried it before. He obviously had because only one glass tipped over when he actually pulled the cloth.
